Rec-Racer Sculls

We have been supplying our oars to top racers and recreational rowers since 1978. The oars (or sculls) we provide for the Row Wing are 9'8" (296cm) long with a carved, spoon-shaped blade. The perimeter shape and curvature of the blade have been specifically designed to cup the water efficiently and 'lock on' at a constant depth. A piece of ash is laminated across the tip to secure the end grain from splitting and resist abrasions.

|
The shafts are constructed by laminating Basswood into a hollow, boxlike matrix wich is subsequently formed into a 'D' shape. This shape takes the greatest advantage of wood's properties when placed in tension and compression (conditions present when the shaft is flexed). Basswood was selected for its strength to weight ratio, its resistance to warpage, and the availability of uniform stock.

The sculls are dip-coated three times with a high build, bakelite base, marine spar varnish. The resulting high gloss finish forms an effective vapor barrier and features an ultraviolet filter that resists degrading. The varnished oars are fitted with protective heat-shrink vinyl sleeving, positioning 'buttons', and comfortable vinyl hand grips.
